The Patient Moments That Changed My Perspective

In rehab, progress is measured in small steps—but sometimes one moment changes everything: the moment a patient stands and realizes they’re capable of more than they believed.

Lite Run has been part of many of those moments for my patients. It’s the patient who stands for the first time and realizes, “I can do this.”
It’s the support that prevents a fall and makes movement feel less painful.
It’s the pride of walking from the therapy gym to the nurses’ station just to say, “Look what I did.”
Those are the moments that change everything in a patient’s recovery.

The use of Lite Run isn’t just about walking—it’s about confidence, trust, and independence.

I think about one patient in particular. He had been in therapy for months and seemed to be reaching a new baseline. His participation was low. His confidence was even lower.

We trialed LITE RUN with limited expectations.

In that first session, he stood for one minute at maximum offload. But he wasn’t convinced of the value of Lite Run.

We continued.

By the third session, he was walking short distances—something shifted. His mood changed. His engagement improved. What we thought was a plateau wasn’t a plateau at all, but our patient not believing in himself.

LITE RUN gave us a way to show him what was still possible and helped him rebuild trust in his body. That changed everything—not just his mobility, but his independence with self-care and his willingness to participate in his recovery. Because as therapists, we know physical progress is only half the battle.

Another patient came to us after being told he would never walk again. But our team saw potential.

Lite Run became a catalyst in his recovery. We were able to get him upright, weight-bearing through his legs multiple times a week, and integrate real-life activities into therapy. Weeks later, he said something I won’t forget:
“LITE RUN got me to where I never thought I could be.” It wasn’t a tool we used for his entire recovery—but it was the tool that showed him his potential.

These are the moments that changed my perspective:
• On the importance of having the right team with the right tools.
• On what it really means to help someone recover—it means helping them believe in themselves and trust their body.

Because when confidence and trust return, so much more is possible.
